THE BIG CUT IS COMING
The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) is likely to begin lowering interest rates much earlier than previously expected and the urgency for a cut already at the next Monetary Policy Committee meeting on 11 December is building, Rian le Roux, chief economist at Old Mutual Investment Group (SA) (Omigsa), said on Thursday.
Le Roux said in a statement that the SARB is likely to begin lowering interest rates in February 2009, rather than during the second quarter as expected before, and there is even a strong chance (nearly 50 percent) of a 50bp rate cut in December.

The chance of earlier rate cuts has increased substantially following two crucial economic developments - the notably sharper-than-expected weakening of the real economy and a further improvement in the inflation outlook, he says.

WORLD AIDS DAY 1 DECEMBER

Every year George Municipality organizes something special for World Aids Day - this year is no different.

A six hour music and dance marathon is on the cards for Monday 1 December, starting at 12:00 at Unity Park in York Street with a program that will keep every body moving until 18:00.

TEA GARDEN TO BE OPEN SOON

The much anticipated Moms and Tots Fairy Tea Garden will have its official opening in the Garden Route Botanical Gardens next Monday, 24 November.

The Moms and Tots initiative hopes to generate much needed funds for the Gardens. Since its conception, many hours of planning and hard work have gone into creating a truly lovely and secure environment where young ones can play and parents can relax and enjoy the tranquil setting.

SA CELEBRATES DECADE OF WORLD SEVENS

The hugely popular Emirates Airline SA Sevens tournament celebrates its tenth anniversary this year and fittingly, it will again be George which will host the world's elite Sevens players on 5 and 6 December.

The 2008 event also marks the sixth consecutive year that our beautiful city will be home to the African leg of the IRB Sevens World Series tournament, traditionally the second event on the calendar of the international series.

Therefore, it comes as no surprise that the theme of the 2008 tournament is a celebration of ten years of International Sevens Rugby in South Africa, thus ce¬lebrating SA Rugby's involvement with the exciting series since the concept started in 1998.

BIKERS INVITED TO JOIN FUN RUN

The Southern Cape Toy Run will be taking place on Sunday, 30 November. All motorbike owners with road-worthy bikes capable of cruising on the N2 highway are invited to attend this largest mass motorbike ride of the year. The ride leaves from the Game shopping centre (bottom of York Street) in George at 11:30, but riders must be there before 11:15 in order to hear the final ride briefing.

The entrance fee consists of a toy or cash donation and the aim of the run is to gather toys for underprivileged kids of our community. Any toy will be appreciated. The donations will be collected at the end venue at MBYBC at the harbour in Mossel Bay.

The double US Open champion has added his name to a field which at this early stage has confirmed entries from various Sun¬shine Tour, LPGA Tour and Champions Tour stars as well as a mix of local and International celebrities.

Rodger Davis, a seven-time winner on the European Tour who finished second in the 1987 Open Championship and was ranked within the top ten on the world rankings
during his career, joins Ronan Rafferty and John Bland amongst the senior campaign¬
at The Links at Fancourt from 27-30 November 2008.

INFLATION RATES TO FALL
Inflation is likely to fall - according to the director general of the National Treasury, Lesetja Kganyago, and as a result, interest rates will fall over time.
Making a presentation to MPs on Parliament's finance committee on Tuesday, the director general said that CPIX has peaked and has already begun to decline. He warned them however that second-round effects and the price of electricity are raising core inflation.

US MARKET MAY BE TURNING AROUND
In a development that bodes well for the South African real estate market, it seems that the battered home sales ship inthe US is - slowly - starting to turn around.
That's the word from Dr Willie Marais, national president of the Institute of Estate Agents (IEASA), who notes that according to the latest figures released by the authoritative National Association of Realtors (NAR), the sales of existing or pre-owned homes in the US rose by 5,5 percent in September, to their highest level in 13 months.
